President receives family visits
Members of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s intimate circle visited her at the Fundación Favaloro hospital yesterday ahead of her surgery today, including her mother, Ofelia Wilhelm.
With worried looks, her son Máximo Kirchner and her sister-in-law, Social Development Minister Alicia Kirchner, also made their way through the flock of reporters and cameras that set up shop outside the hospital.
Vice President Amado Boudou also visited the president late last night.
A group of activists, including members of the Evita movement and Tupac Amaru grouping, also showed up to express their support outside the hospital joining with journalists awaiting any development.
Activists put up banners at the main entrance to the hospital, on Belgrano Avenue, with slogans that included: “Be strong, comrade, we are with you,” “With love and activism” and “Avanti morocha.”
When the president arrived at 1pm in a car, an onlooker shouted “be strong, Cristina,” and the head of state acknowledged the gesture by raising her hand.
Traffic around the hospital, located in the Buenos Aires City neighbourhood of Monserrat, was heavily affected as federal police closed off vehicle access to Venezuela street close to the hospital.
