It’s time for the ‘Superderby’
River Plate and Boca Juniors will play the “Superderby” today at the Monumental stadium at 6.15pm, and both teams need a victory. Ramón Díaz had a quiet week to pick his first team players, while Carlos Bianchi deal with many injuries and players with mumps.
One of the most important matches in the world is going to be held at the Monumental stadium today at 6.15pm. River Plate and Boca Juniors will face each other again to play another “Superderby”, this time for the 10th round of the Initial Tournament.
Both teams need to win. Boca, with 16 points, is seven behind Newell’s Old Boys, the defending champion and current leader, and knows that a victory will place them as a definite title contender. The squad led by Carlos Bianchi will go for two wins in a row for the first time in the tournament: last weekend it defeated Quilmes in Boca’s La Bombonera after a convincing performance.
River, with 14, cannot afford to give up points at home: a defeat will put an end to the illusion of the championship fight. This team, like its eternal rival, will also come in with momentum after beating the gruelling Lanús on a goal scored in injury time.
Ramón Díaz had a quite week and did not have many problems to pick the players for the first team. He did not have too many injuries to deal with and he confirmed the team in a press conference on Friday.
River will play with: Marcelo Barovero; Gabriel Mercado, Jonatan Maidana, Éder Álvarez Balanta, Leonel Vangioni; Carlos Carbonero, Cristian Ledesma, Ariel Rojas; Manuel Lanzini; Teófilo Gutiérrez and Federico Andrada.
Bianchi, on the other hand, had difficult days and waited until the last moment to decide the first team for the “Superderby.” One of his usual first team choices, Pablo Ledesma, suffered from mumps. Cristian Erbes, who recovered during the week from a tear, will take his place. Substitute Alan Aguirre also suffered from the same condition as Ledesma.
Uruguayan central midfielder Ribair Rodríguez, who played as a central defender in the last Boca’s matches, joined the injury list after tearing a muscle in the last game.
However, there are not all bad news for Bianchi, as Daniel “Cata” Díaz, one of the team’s key players, will make his return after recovering from a tear.
Boca will also count on top class midfielder Fernando Gago and Juan Román Riquelme, who will play together for the second time in the championship.
Bianchi’s team will be: Agustín Orión; Jesús Méndez, Díaz, Claudio Pérez, Nahuel Zárate; Erbes, Gago, Juan Sánchez Miño; Riquelme; Juan Manuel Martínez and Emanuel Gigliotti.
There are only going to be home fans today as the visiting supporters are not allowed to enter to the stadium.
