Carrió blasts ABL hike
UNEN coalition top candidate for the Lower House Elisa Carrió urged the BA City government yesterday to put a stop to the planned increase in the ABL housing tax, saying that taxes as a whole were becoming an oppressive force on the middle class.
As part of the draft City budget presented to the legislature this week, the ABL will increase by as much as 40 percent for some residents.
According to BA City officials, only three percent of properties will suffer a 40-percent increase in property tax while the vast majority will see their fees increase by an average of 20 percent this year.
“The announced increase will directly impact the middle sectors that have their purchasing capacity frozen, while their cost of living keeps climbing,” Carrió said.
The Budget presented by City Mayor Mauricio Macri’s administration, which was introduced in the Legislature Monday but will not be voted on until after the October midterms, states that ABL property revenues will grow 3.58 billion pesos to 4.34 billion the next year. For her part, PRO senatorial candidate Gabriela Michetti maintained that “this is not an unexpected increase” because it was voted on during the 2011 legislative period.
