River to host Ecuador's Liga de Loja today
Will try to leave the disappointing 2-1 defeat behind
After losing 2-1 in Guayaquil in the first leg, River Plate will try to leave that disappointing result behind today when it hosts Liga de Loja at the Monumental stadium for the second leg of their South American Cup series.
River Plate will host Liga de Loja of Ecuador today at the Monumental stadium with the obligation of winning the match to turn around the series and advance to the quarterfinals of the South American Cup.
Ramón Díaz’s side will try to leave behind the disappointing 2-1 defeat in Guayaquil last week to stay alive in the competition.
Díaz confirmed that he will display an attacking team to win and qualify for the next round, although they do not have to be overconfident because a conceded goal could put them in real trouble.
If Alex Aguinaga’s team scores a goal, River will need to get at least a 3-1 result to get into the quarterfinals.
With the return of Colombian defender Eder Álvarez Balanta to the first team, Díaz will keep a four-man defence to face Liga de Loja. Álvarez Balanta will take Jonathan Bottinelli’s place and Germán Pezzella will replace Jonathan Maidana.
In the midfield and attack, River will keep the same players that defeated All Boys on Sunday for the Initial tournament. Meanwhile, Liga de Loja will use the same team that won the first leg 2-1 in Ecuador.
