Pierri drops Mangeri's defence in Ángeles Rawson case
Miguel Ángel Pierri will no longer be the defence attorney of Jorge Mangeri, the superintendent accused of murdering 16-year old Ángeles Rawson and who remains detained since June 15. The lawyer announced his resignation today.
In statements to media, Pierri said the reasons that drove him to drop the case “personal and family-related,” rejecting versions that connect his resignation with the sexual abuse theory. The high-profile attorney had stated that if the hypothesis about Manegri raping or trying to sexually abuse Ángeles was true, he would quit.
Marcelo Biondi and Facundo Alesinas working for Pierri’s law firm might be left in charge of Mangeri´s defence.
“I still trust in Jorge Mangeri. My 6-year old son is very affected. I have a son who is a lawyer, he is in New York, and tells me the case is really affecting him as well. My wife is suffering the consequences,” Miguel Ángel Pierri explained.
“I have always said that if this case had a sexual motive, I would have not been the defence attorney. My decision is strictly related to personal matters and family-related reasons. I made a promise to my son,” he insisted and added he will be meeting Mangeri at the Ezeiza prison in the upcoming days.
Ángeles Rawson was killed back in June, her body found at a CEAMSE waste landfill in the Buenos Aires province locality of José León Suárez. Jorge Mangeri, the superintendent working at the building where the adolescent lived with her family, has been prosecuted for her death and remains in jail.
