Independiente earns deserve win
Independiente came from behind to defeat Sarmiento de Junín 2-1 yesterday in an interesting match held in Avellaneda for the ninth round of the National B Division tournament.
Facundo Parra scored both Independiente’s goals in the 39th and 53rd minutes while Yamil Garnier netted for the visitors in the 4th minute.
The team coached by Omar De Felippe remains unbeaten in its last five matches with three victories and two draws.
“Is does not matter who scores the goals. We privilege the team spirit. All of us share the goal of promoting Independiente,” said Parra, who came back from Italy in order to help the Avellaneda side.
Parra had last scored two goals for Independiente in a 4-1 win over Racing in April 2012.
“It is always important for a striker to score two goals but it is better to win at home,” he added.
Also yesterday, Vélez Sarsfield beat Atlético de Rafaela 4-1 in the closing match of the eighth round of the Initial Tournament. Vélez has now 12 points, five from leader Newell’s Old Boys.
Lucas Pratto opened the scoring in the 21st minute and Fabián Cubero headed the second in the 29th. Mauro Zárate — who was blocked a penalty shot by goalkeeper Esteban Conde in the first half — increased the gap in the 61st minute. Leandro Desábato sealed the victory in injury time.
Federico González pulled one back in the 63rd.
Late on Sunday, River Plate defeated All Boys 1-0 to improve to 11 points, getting the winning goal from Carlos Carbonero in the 80th minute.
