CFK visits fire affected areas in Córdoba
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner today overflew the areas affected by the wild fires registered in the province of Córdoba which last week prompted hundreds of evacuations, injured five people and caused several damages.
The visit was planned for last week but had to be postponed due to bad weather conditions.
On board of Tango 02 presidential plane, the head-of-state overflew Córdoba’s most affected areas, escorted by Oscar Parrilli, Sergio Berni and congressional candidate Carolina Scotto. "We came to give support to people,” Cristina said.
"The helicopters of the presidency have come. The President has asked to visit all the Calamuchita region,” Villa María Mayor Eduardo Accastello told Cadena 3 news network. He added her visit will last two hours and a half to see what the provincial authorities have done and what the national government can do to handle the damage after the fire.
According to official figures released by the National Committee of Special Activities (CONAE in Spanish), the unstoppable fire devastated 95,650 hectares in the province. Five people were reported injured, around 40 houses were ruined and many animals were killed, without mentioning the environmental damage the fire caused in this highly visited tourist region.
