After 2-0 solid victory over Racing Club, Sánchez Miño and Gigliotti score

Boca, without Riquelme, beat Racing 2-0 with a convincing performance to keep alive its chances of becoming champion after Carlos Bianchi’s comeback. Estudiantes ended its unbeaten run and Tigre defeated Rosario Central.

Boca Juniors defeated Racing 2-0 yesterday at la Bombonera stadium to climb two points from leaders Newell’s in a match belonging to the 7th round of the Initial Tournament.
Also yesterday, Estudiantes ended its unbeaten run after a 1-0 loss to Rafaela while Tigre defeated Rosario Central 2-0.
Juan Sánchez Niño and Emmanuel Gigliotti scored Boca’s goals in the 16th and 67th minutes, respectively.
The Derby between Boca and Racing showed two teams which needed to overcome the disappointing start of the season. Boca came from losing 3-0 to Olimpo, what made clear the team’s weakness in defence and offence. On the other side, visitors Racing, which has recently hired Carlos Ischia as coach, remains in the bottom place of the standings with two points.
With striker Juan Román Riquelme sidelined for the third match in a row due to a muscle strain, Boca had a solid performance while Racing, which fielded mainly young players, had great failures in all its lines.
Midfielder Sánchez Miño opened the scoring with a header to increase the gap in the second half when Fernando Gago led the team to a remarkable victory. Gigliotti headed the second goal of the match but his first in Boca.
Line-ups — Boca Juniors: Agustín Orión; Cristian Erbes, Ribair Rodríguez, Daniel Díaz and Emanuel Insúa; Jesús Méndez, Pablo Ledesma, Fernando Gago and Juan Sánchez Miño; Juan Manuel Martínez and Emmanuel Gigliotti. Coach: Carlos Bianchi.
Racing: Sebastián Saja; José Luis Gómez, Esteban Saveljich, Leonardo Migliónico and Matías Cahais; Diego Villar, Agustín Pelletieri and Luis Ibáñez; Rodrigo De Paul; Gabriel Hauche and Luciano Vietto. Coach: Carlos Ischia.
In another afternoon match, Estudiantes lost to relegation-threatened Rafaela. Lucas Albertengo netted the winner in the 15th minute. La Plata’s Derby between Estudiantes and Gimnasia y Esgrima is scheduled for the next round.
In the other match, Tigre beat Rosario Central on goals from Ramiro Leone and debutant Emiliano Ellacopulos in the 50th and 63rd minutes, respectively.
Late on Saturday, San Lorenzo made a goalless draw with Godoy Cruz 1-1 in Mendoza.
