Miceli leaves Canal 7
State-owned Televisión Pública yesterday released a statement saying news anchor Juan Miceli decided to leave the channel, “considering himself laid off following a notification sent by telegram.” However, the statement went into detail about the circumstances of Miceli’s departure, saying Canal 7 “dismisses any claim or allegation that might link this controversy with any practice of censorship or infringement of rights to freedom of speech and information.”
Last week, Miceli said the channel would not extend his contract which was due to expire at the end of the year. He then took to Twitter to say Canal 7 had cancelled his midday newscast to go live from the Supreme Court with a hearing on the broadcasting law.
Canal 7’s statement disavows Miceli’s tweets, saying the show was taken off the air only for one day, returning to its normal schedule on August 27.
