Independiente hires De Felippe as new coach
Coach Omar De Felippe officially took charge of Independiente yesterday and was introduced in a press conference at the club in Avellaneda.
De Felippe replaced Miguel Brindisi, who was fired after a disappointing start in the National B Division, with two defeats and two draws in four matches.
The former Quilmes and Olimpo boss, teams where he managed to promote from the National B to the First Division, was in charge of his first training session with the Independiente squad in the afternoon.
“I have to talk a lot with the players, we have a good team, good players. We hope to get the best from them to become a great team,” said the new coach. “I’m not going to promise magical things, I told that to the officials,” De Felippe added. “But we have faith in our work and the good results should appear quickly.”
Independiente was relegated to the second division for the first time in its history last season. With high expectations from its supporters for the beginning of the National B Division tournament, the Reds started with a stunning 2-1 defeat at home against Brown de Adrogué, which was newly promoted from the First Division B (Argentina’s third division). The poor performances continued with a 0-0 draw with Boca Unidos in Corrientes, a 2-2 draw at home with Aldosivi and a 2-1 loss at Atlético Tucumán.
