Pope Francis to meet President Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia

Pope Francis meets with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in the Vatican City

As part of an official tour to Brazil where he will be visiting Rio de Janeiro to attend the celebrations marking the 2013 World Youth Day, Pope Francis is expected to hold a meeting with Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia.

The Argentine pontiff will be arriving in Rio on July 23rd and would visit Brazil’s main Catholic sanctuary Aparecida, the Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo reports.

Secretary General to the presidency Gilberto Carvalho said on Wednesday that the Brazilian government intends to sign an agreement with the Latin American pope, the first in history, to battle poverty.

Brazil, the country with the world’s largest Catholic population and, will become the scenario of Francis’ first international event as 3 million people are expected to take part in the World Youth Day activities.
