Gov't praises Pope Francis in rapprochement
Presidential-chief-of-Staff Oscar Parrilli, came on stage today to praise pope’s decision to beatify Carlos de Dios Murias, a Franciscan friar tortured and killed in la Rioja province by Argentina’s last civil-military dictatorship.
After attending a meeting at the Government House with Planning Minister Julio De Vido, La Rioja’s Governor Luis Beder Herrera, and mayors of the same province, the official indicated that President Cristina Fernández de Kirchners returned “very pleased and happy from her trip to Rome”, and expressed that he believes Francis’ election “marks the start of good times for all Argentines and Latin Americans”
Thus, Parrilli left behind the historical bad relationship between the Kirchner family and former Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and showed how in less than a week the onslaught triggered from various Kirchnerite voices as to the new Pope’s alleged complicity with the 1976-83 military dictatorship, can be changed -upon CFK’s approval- into a rapprochement to the pontiff and leader of 1.2 million catholics.
Likewise, Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina, also present in the meeting, bashed those who said the government was not happy with Bergoglio’s election.
“They are all lies”, the Minister said and blamed Clarín newspaper for saying that the government was not pleased with the conclave’s outcome.
