BA province gov't ends salary negotiations, teachers announce new strike

The Buenos Aires province government decided to unilaterally end wages talks with the teachers’ unions after they rejected a new 22.6 percent salary offer and announced yet another 48-hour strike next week and a demonstration.

The provincial government said negotiations with the teachers’ unions were over after they failed to reach an agreement with them. The unions rejected three different proposals offered by Governor Daniel Scioli.

“The province has made a great effort to reach this last proposal,” he said before closing negotiations. “We want to see kids in schools.”

In response, teachers announced that they would go on strike for 48-hours again and would stage another protest next week.
