Gov't announces military wage increases
After last year’s intense wave of protests, the National Government has confirmed salary increases for coast guard and military personnel that will become effective next month, as published in the Official Gazette under decrees 245 and 246.
In statements to the Del Plata radio station, Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli said the decision comes to “overcome a 20-year old problem” and referred to the 2012 crisis. “Last year, certain unjust situations led to the events we all know about but they have been repaired through these decrees”, Puricelli affirmed and added that the Armed Forces “know they can not unionize”.
In that sense, the Victory Front official questioned the attempts to foster new protests as announced in several social networks this week, considering they respond to sectors linked with Argentina’s military rule and “involved” in human rights violations.
