City Gov't ratifies Subte tariff hike
The head of the Buenos Aires subways, Juan Pablo Piccardo, ratified that the tariffs will be going up to $3.50 on March 15th.
“On March 15th a new tariff kicks in, with a single Subway ride going up to $3.50 and a single Premetro ride going up to $1,” he said.
“We need to invest and reinforce security because we can’t just provide people with a cheap, low-quality service. It has to be good and at a reasonable price,” she added.
The Subte official justified the hike, assuring that they took all costs from last year into consideration.
“There are 4084 people working for Metrovías and basically increases in energy and maintenance costs alone represented and increase of $300 millon in spending,” he explained.
On Friday, during a hearing that supported the hike, Piccardo had already justified the increase, when discussing price hikes.
At the same time, the Subte Workers’ Union has already warned that they will request for the public hearing not to be taken into consideration.
