Prosecutor declares Media Law Constitutional

Prosecutor José María Medrano has declared that Argentina´s media law is constitutional in tune with a recent ruling by the Federal Judge Horacio Alfonso. The Civil and Commercial Court will now have to confirm or reject Alfonso´s decision.

Back in December, a Federal Court extended Clarin´s injunction on Article 161 of the Media Law that forces media holders to abide by the new ownership restrictions and limits on broadcasting licenses.

The head of the Federal Authority of Audiovisual Communication Services Martin Sabbatella has recently said he has few expectations about the Court´s decision considering it has already ruled against the national government in its long-standing dispute with Clarin.
