Tigre win 3-0 to reach Libertadores Cup group stage
Tigre put in an excellent performance to beat Venezuela’s Deportivo Anzoátegui 3-0 in the away leg of the Libertadores Cup preliminary round to win on a 5-1 aggregate and qualify for first round group 2.
Tigre’s rivals in the four-team round-robin home and away group will be Sporting Cristal (Peru), Libertad (Paraguay) and Palmeiras (Brazil).
Tigre were in control from the start and had more of the ball to the point that Anzoátegui could hardly get out of their half of the field.
Rubén Botta, the man of the match, opened the score after seven minutes, while Federico Santander and Ezequiel Maggiolo in the second half, while Gabriel Peñalba organized play with authority and concentration.
Only after gaining the three-goal lead did Tigre gradually fell back, no doubt tiring in the altitude, but Anzoátegui — who finished with 10 men due to the expulsion of Evelio Hernández — never created any danger.
Tigre were making their debut in the Libertadores Cup.
