'A subway price hike will force people to use other transport'

Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo.

In the meeting led by Interior and Transport Minister today, there was no consensus over city transport fares. Randazzo criticized Mauricio Macri’s plans to raise subway fares and said a hike “will force people to use other modes of transport.”

The City stands by its stance of raising the subway fare to $3.50 as from March 3rd.

Randazzo was leading a meeting today at the Government House with City and Buenos Aires province officials to discuss transport fares in the metropolitan area.

Yesterday Mauricio Macri announced he would not be attending the meeting, something that Randazzo expressed regret over.

Standing in for Macri will be Buenos Aires City Transport Secretary Guillermo Dietrich.

Randazzo had originally invited Scioli to participate in the meeting as well, however, he will also be absent. In his stead will be Alejandro Arlía, Infrastructure minister and Ángel Mazza the head of the Province Transport Agency.
