Randazzo summons Scioli, Macri to reject Subte price hike

Interior and Transportation Minister Florencio Randazzo has summoned Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli and City Mayor Mauricio Macri to a meeting this Friday at the Metropolitan Transportation Agency to express his rejection over the new subway fare hike.

In the meeting, scheduled to take place on Friday at 11 am in the Government House, Randazzo will express his disagreement with the hike because “it will affect the pockets of thousands of passengers and throw the rest of the transportation system of the metropolitan area off balance due to the big difference between the subte fare and the buses and trains fares.

Randazzo hopes to discuss the need to “avoid a new hike” on top of the one enacted on January 5th last year, which amounted to a 125 percent increase of the original fare.

"I believe that as three jurisdictions working together, we need to find an alternative that benefits the entire system. As Transportations Minister I want to hear what Macri’s arguments are for creating a huge burden on hundreds of thousands of passengers. We do not agree with the hike and we want to discourage it from happening through dialogue,” he closed.
