CGT leaders meet with Tomada, call for changes in income tax floor

The official CGT leaders, led by Antonio Caló, met with Labour Minister Carlos Tomada at the Ministry headquarters to discuss changes in the income tax floor and wage talks.

The head of Health Union, Héctor Daer, talked to the press after the encounter and assured "we've moved forward with some issues. We've also talked about the income tax floor, and we believe it must be changed as soon as possible."

Hours before meeting with Caló, Tomada said he would ask the organization to be “prudent” when making salary demands to the private sector. 

The meeting, originally scheduled to take place at 2:30 pm, was moved to 6 pm, official sources confirmed on Monday afternoon.

At the same time, Tomada has agreed to meet with the leader of the CTA workers’ union, Hugo Yasky, on Tuesday at 4:30 pm at the organization’s headquarters.

The Government is looking to reach a deal with the two major umbrella unions so calls for salary raises do not exceed a 20 percent hike.

According to a local news agency, the CGT’s goal is to reach a deal around 21 percent this year in exchange for a raise of the income tax floor.

The union leader, who recently urged President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner “not to let the purchasing power of the workers diminish,” also expects to meet with her by the end of January.
