CFK meets with UAE's President

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met with United Arab Emirates’ President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to discuss possible food and nuclear energy agreements between the two countries as well the opening of a UAE’s trade bureau in Buenos Aires.

The lunch meeting, held at the Al Mushrif Presidential palace, lasted more than an hour, and according to Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman the outcome “was highly positive as UAE’s authorities showed their keen interest in cooperating with Argentina.”

Likewise, the Minister told reporters that the HEad of State was very clear to the Emirates leaders as she remarked them that "Argentina is not looking for clients but partners."

Argentine officials informed that the Presidential day of activities will end with a meeting with the head of the Emirates' Sovereign Fund, and independent group that holds a 650 billion dollars oil profits fund set aside for new business opportunities. 

This is Fernández de Kirchner’s first stop for her Asian tour which includes visits to Vietnam and Indonesia as part of an eleven day-long official trip. CFK first visit was to Havana, Cuba, where she met with family members of ailing Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez.

Fernández is travelling in company of Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, Agriculture Minister Norberto Yahuar, and Public Communications secretary Alfredo Sccoccimarro.

On Saturday, the Head of State met with relatives of her Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chávez, who is hospitalized in delicate condition following a December 11th cancer surgery.

Fernández de Kirchner had also held a lunch with Cuban president Raúl Castro and his brother and former Cuban leader Commander Fidel Castro.
