'I went out of respect and solidarity for a friend,' CFK says

Photo released by the Cuban presidency showing President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (L) visiting Cuban former president Fidel Castro at his house in Havana on January 11, 2013.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said today that she visited Cuba “out of respect and solidarity toward a person who is a great friend of Argentina,” referring to Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, who is in hospital in Havana.

The Argentine Head of State made the statements before boarding the plane to the Arab Emirates.

“I want to thank Commander Fidel Castro and his family for inviting to me to the intimate lunch yesterday, and also to the president of Cuba Raúl Castro, for the warm welcome and wonderful treatment I received during my stay," she added.
