CFK meets with Chávez's family in Cuba

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner arrives at the José Martí airport in Cuba.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner arrived this morning in Havana, where she had lunchwith Raúl and Fidel Castro and later visited the hospital where her Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chávez remains hospitalized since his December 11th cancer surgery.

Shortly after her arrival, the Head of State assured she was going to meet with Chávez's relatives to find out how her Venezuelan counterpart is doing. "You already know the reasons for my visit, I will lunch with Fidel and Raúl Castro and then I will meet with the family of my dear friend Hugo Chávez," she told reporters.

"This is not a visit to make any comments or statements, but to show solidarity towards this friend and comrade who did so much for Argentina at a time when no one would helps us," she added.

The Argentine Head of State arrived just after 7 am (local time) and was received by Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.

Fernández de Kirchner will stay in Cuba until tomorrow, when she will head to her tour of the Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Vietnam.
