Pichetto doubts Congress support for CFK third period

The head of the Victory Front’s bloc in the Senate, Miguel Angel Pichetto, acknowledged the government will need to reach large "political consensus" with the opposition in order to reform the constitution and enable a third period for President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

As the Kirchnerism seeks for Fernández de Kirchner’s third period in 2015, Pichetto, who would be be in charge of negotiating the support of two thirds of the Senate, told a local newspaper is not an easy task.

Thus, the Kirchnerite Senator admitted the goal to be highly difficult: “I do not know if we can achieve sufficient support to carry out the constitutional reforms needed to maintain the leadership of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner."

Likewise, Pichetto remarked that a huge “political consensus at both the Upper and Lower houses of Congress will be needed in order carry out a reform.”

Furthermore, the Río Negro’s province Senator remembered that so far a reform is nothing but mere speculations as “this is a debate that the President has not raised yet as things in the parliamentary arena seems to be somehow limited.”

Nevertheless, Pichetto raised concerns as the Kirchnerism seems not to find any successors for Fernández, who still remains as the only presidential option.

“So far, I don’t see anyone within the Peronist movement capable of keeping up with the process led by our President”, the Senator concluded.
