Viedma Mayor dies
Viedma Mayor Jorge Ferreira died early this morning aged 57 after a long illness. He had been first elected in 2007 and reelected as mayor of the Río Negro town in 2011.
A wake was being held at the cityhall in Viedma, along San Martin street and would then be taken to the cemetery in Carmen de Patagones for burial.
Ferreira, a member of the Radical Party, was first elected as mayor in 2007, and a
Reform of the charter, was able to be reelected in 2011.
Following his death, the president of the local council José Luis Foulkers will act as mayor until new elections are called for after 75 days.
