Subway A line to close from Jan 12 to March 8
Subway line A will be closed between January 12th and March 8 in order to undergo scheduled reforms, Subterráneos Buenos Aires (SBASE) head Juan Pablo Piccardo confirmed today.
"Among others, tasks include the removal of the 55 Le Brugeoise carriages, which are a hundred years old, and will be replaced by 45 new carriages that will count with air conditioning and state of the art technology," Sbase head Juan Pablo Piccardo said.
The City government official stressed the fact that the closure of the line is essential to carry out the reforms which incluye a change in power, tests of the new carriages, training for drivers and security guards, and also apologized the users.
Regarding the fate of the Le Brugeoise carriages, at least fifteen will be preserved according to international standards so that tourists and citizens will be able to enjoy them as a touristic ride during weekends. The remaining carriages will be given to civil organizations and NGOs.
