Mar del Plata port closing final details for Libertad’s return
The head of the navy in Mar del Plata, Carlos Barrios Cardozo, said today that the final operation details were being put through, in order for the ARA Libertad frigate’s safe arrival into the port after being held in Ghana since October over a debt demand by a US hedge fund.
The naval chief explained that they were “coordingating the naval route and organising security for the ship’s arrival into the port.”
“The ship will arrive on Wednesday the 9th of January between 5pm and 6pm and will have helicopter security and the coastguard present.
“The idea is that the arrival be a celebration and that nothing strange happens,” Cardozo said.
A party is being planned for the ship’s arrival by the Naval Club, which coincides with summer holiday season, the busiest touristic period of the year in Mar del Plata.
