Del Potro beats Roddick in Uruguay's first match

Argentina´s number one tennis player, Juan Martín Del Potro.

World's seventh ranked tennis player Juan Martín Del Potro defeated US player Andy Roddick, recently retired, by 6-2 and 7-5, in the first of two exhibition matches in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

The match took place at the Cantegrill Country Club in the Uruguayan Atlantic resort city. Tomorrow the pair will play again at the Cúpula de la Sociedad Rural in Junín, Buenos Aires province.

Before Del Potro and Roddick, ex player Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas played against Argentine Gastón Gaudio, who has also retired, and defeated him.

The opening match tomorrow will be between the Argentine tennis icons, ex players Guillermo Vilas and José Luis Clerc.
