BA neighbourhoods left without power

Many Buenos Aires city residents were left without power since Monday due to the intense heat wave that hit the capital.

Various parts of the capital city and Greater Buenos Aires were left without power for the second day in a row today, following Monday’s intense heat that threw thermometers up to a rocking heat index of 46 degrees.

Some of the neighbourhoods affected included Coghlan, Belgrano, Colegiales, Flores, Floresta and Almagro.

The power cuts were caused by the high demand for energy yesterday, which according to official reports, reached 19,600 megawatts. The record is 21,949, from February 16 last year.

Today, residents of the northern part of Buenos Aires province, at the Florida junction of the Panamerican Highway, gathered to protest against the lack of power in the area.

Others took to the streets in Coghlan neighbourhood and other city neighbourhoods to manifest their anger over the lack of electricity.
