President meets with head of Catholic Church
Two weeks after the Catholic Church issued a statement warning of ‘irreconcilable divisions’ in Argentine society, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met with José María Arancedo, head of the Argentine Episcopal Synod.
Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina and Cult Secretary Guillermo Oliveri also participated in the encounter held at the Government House.
"It was a really cordial meeting," the episcopal spokesman, Jorge Oesterheld, told the press, and detailed that the Head of State and the priests spoke about "the current situation of the country, the human trafficking and the need to strength the institutional links."
The episcopal delegation also transmitted to the President "the need to keep on working on poverty," the spokesman continued.
Oesterheld avoided any comment related to the controversial statement given by the end of November.
