Five injured in a shootout in downtown BA

Five people were injured today in Buenos Aires city centre in a shootout between police and delinquents in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Talcahuano and Bartolomé Mitre streets.

Police cordoned have off the area in order to carry out an investigation.

Early reports said that some ten gunshots were fired.

Witnesses at the scene said that there had been a chase leading to the area of the incident.

One policeman was reported to have been badly wounded, and was taken via helicopter to Churruca Hospital.

Head of the SAME ambulance service Alberto Crescenti confirmed that another three people were injured with shot wounds and were taken to Ramos Mejía Hospital.

Authorities were not yet able to specify whether the injured parties, aside from the policeman, were deliquents escaping from a crime or passers-by.
