Larreta calls Scioli's waste ultimatum 'aggressive'

City Cabinet Chief Horacio Larreta.

Following the crossfire yesterday between Buenos Aires province governor Daniel Scioli and City Mayor Mauricio Macri over the rubbish dispute, City Cabinet Chief called the province’s response as “aggressive.”

Scioli yesterday asked Macri to implement the Zero Waste Act due to excessive amounts of rubbish sent to the province.

“I don’t know if he’s joined in on the national government’s aggressive attitude, which is looking for a fight. It’s not clear.

“It makes no sense to generate a political dispute” surrounding the treatment of rubbish, Larreta said today, in a local radio interview.

“Firstly, this is a problem that can’t be pinned only on the city of Buenos Aires. We’ve got to look at the entire metropolitan area as a whole. Some three million people come into the city everyday, who also generate rubbish,” the city official said.
