Gov't confirms third yearly raise on domestic flights tickets

The Government has authorized a 20% raise on domestic flights ticket -the third of the year- as it was published today in the Official Gazette.

“It is necessary to authorize a new tariff scheme in order to guarantee the functioning of the air public transportation system”, the government explained on today’s Official Gazette.

Back in June the Transport Minister had decided a 10 percent raise for all domestic flights tickets bought with 10 or more days in advance, while those bought with less than 10 days to flight-date suffered a 20 to 31 percent increase in price depending on flight-distance.

Likewise, in February tickets had also experienced a raise of between 18 and 54 percent.

Furthermore, from November 2009 to May 2011 the administration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner authorized raises by 61 percent.

Domestic flights industry is mainly controlled by Aerolíneas Argentinas airline followed by LAN Argentina, which is the local unit of Chile’s LAN Airlines.
