Argentina calls on UN Security Council to order end of hostilities in Gaza

Foreign Minister Héctor Timernan.

In a press conference from the Government House, Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman read a letter written by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in which she urges the UN Security Council “to order the immediate end of hostilities” to Gaza.

In a personal letter addressed to the head of the UN Security Council, Hardeep Singh Puri, Fernández de Kirchner urges him to “urgently call for the Council to convene in order to put an end to this round of violence that strengthens those who wish to impede the creation of a Palestine state that can peacefully coexist with Israel, as the president of the Palestine Nationals Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, promised he would do.”

She adds that “we will always work in order to avoid armed conflicts and support peaceful solutions, as well as the defence of the human life over geopolitical and economic interests. This situation, however, cannot wait.”
