Blackouts hit several City neighbourhoods

Chaotic traffic jam in 9 de Julio Avenue.

Power cuts affected several Buenos Aires City neighbourhoods, leading to heavy traffic jams in the main avenues, power cuts of traffic lights and suspension of train and subway lines' services.

City government sources reported that the blackout has hit 9 de Julio Avenue from the crossroad of Belgrano to Tucumán street. Retiro and this avenue are suffering an intense traffic jam.

Other neighbourhoods affected by the power cuts are: Puerto Madero, Congreso, Once, Boedo, Northern and Southern area of Greater Buenos Aires, among others.

The blackout also reached the National Congress and the Government House.

The energy cut has affected 1,500 traffic lights, which are not working in many crossroads of the city.

Meanwhile, the energy cut had generated the partial suspension of six subway lines, and three services of Mitre train line. Sources said that there is not power reaching the station, and spokesmen detailed that "there's no estimated time to resume service."

Edesur's spokeswoman, Alejandra Martínez, stated that the cuts "were due to a high tension incident." Besides, she anticipated that "the service will be normalized as hours go by."
