US election intensely followed via Twitter

President Barack Obama encourages voters by using his Twitter account.

The US presidential election votes counts had an intense aftermath in Twitter, as the social network registered more than 11 million tweets over the election a few hours after the polls closed in the East Coast.

Incumbent President Barack Obama is encouraging voters to remain in line to vote, tweeting "It could help make the difference."

Meanwhile, Republican candidate Mitt Romney tweeted for the last time three hours ago, and stated "With your help, we will turn our country around and get America back on the path to prosperity. Please vote today."

The social network remains the place for debate for those voters watching closely as the states turn "red" or "blue."
