'Piña Colada' leads best beach drink ranking

Puerto Rico's "Piña Colada" was elected as the best beach drink of the world, followed by Brazil's Caipirinha, according to National Geographic.

Puerto Rico's Tourism Company's executive director, Luis Rivera Marín, highlighted that the country's official cocktail had been chosen by the magazine, followed by the Caipirinha and Polinesia's Mai Tai.

"This is a traditional drink in our island. The great difference in our receipe is that we make them with our Puerto Rican rum," he continued.

The cocktail is made by six ounces of pine juice, coconut cream, two ounces of white rum and ice.

The magazine stated this drink "had been popular in the Caribbean for at least a hundred years before Ramon "Monchito" Marrero, a bartender at the Caribe Hilton’s Beachcomber Bar (now called Oasis Bar) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, perfected it in the 1950s using cream of coconut."

The Puerto Rican cocktail shared the top three with the Caipirinha and Mai Tai, while a Jamaican beer, Cuba's daikiri, Mexico's Margarita, Italy's Limoncello, Massachusetts' Cape Coddan, France's Rosé and India's Gin and Tonic completed the ranking.
