Lower House rapidly clears 'per saltum' bill for debate

Lower House lawmakers in the Constitutional Affairs and Justice committee rapidly approved the ‘per saltum’ bill in a morning session today, after it was passed yesterday 43 to 26 votes in the Senate.

The Kirchnerite caucus presented the controversial 'per saltum' bill that regulates an extraordinary appeal to let the Supreme Court decide on “serious institutional cases” which require a “swift, definite solution” without going through lower courts first.

In under 50 minutes into the hearing, the government-led bloc ruled in favour of the bill, despite reluctance by the opposition.

The Radical Party caucus (UCR) pulled out of the hearing before it was over, with lawmaker Mario Negri stating that “when we got here they were already signing."
