Gov't rejects CGT elections, Moyano prepares national strike

CGT leader Hugo Moyano

Hugo Moyano revealed he received an official notification from the Labour Ministry reporting that it annulled the CGT elections which reelected him a secretary general of the labour confederation. He is preparing a national strike for November to protest against the measure.

“In an absolutely partial attitude they ‘annulled’ the congress. We will take this matter to court. We have all the documents that explain that the congress was called for in an orderly manner, respecting rules and statutes,” Moyano said as he entered the CGT headquarters in Azopardo Street, to lead a meeting of the board members. “We do not have the Government’s protection and that is why they had the courage to make this decision,” he said.

The Government refuses to acknowledge the board of directors meeting in which the national congress was called for. According to the Government’, that meeting did not comply with the necessary legal requirements to call for the national congress, because six representatives were replaced by officials who were not allowed to take part in the meeting. Thus, all subsequent steps are not valid.
