Libertad frigate crew arrives

The charter Air France flight carrying the 281 crew of the Libertad navy training frigate arrived in Buenos Aires after midnight last night, the French airline informed.

The flight carrying the Libertad frigate crew back home was scheduled to arrive at 8.45 pm, but due to a delay, they are expected to land 20 minutes past midnight.

Among them are eight Uruguayan officers and 13 Chileans. Of the 15 Chileans originally on board, one of them was injured in an accident and had to be sent home last week.

The Uruguayan and Chilean marines will spend the night in the Naval Military School, in La Plata, Buenos Aires province, until tomorrow, when they will travel to Montevideo and Santiago.

What has yet to be clarified is whether the marines from these countries will at some point resume the “training” that was being imparted on the Libertad, as this was the final training voyage for these Navy officers.
