'Abortion discussion to be opened at some stage,' Senator Fernández

A day after the Uruguayan senate legalized abortion, Senator Aníbal Fernández didn’t hold back to mention the subject with regards to Argentina stating that “the discussion on abortion will be opened at some stage,” but was unsure about whether it would happen “right away.”

The national senator spoke with a local radio station early this morning on the Senate’s steps toward amplifying the teen vote, following an intense and lengthy session in the Upper House of Congress yesterday.

When questioned on the historic move made by Uruguay yesterday, the pro-government lawmaker said: “the discussion will happen at some stage but I’m not sure whether it’ll happen right away.”

“The non-punishable abortion has already put on the table by way of the Supreme Court,” Fernández said, furthering that “discussions should take too long to open on the topic.”
