Retired officer shot dead in Mataderos robbery
A retired Federal Police officer was shot dead last night in the south-western neighbourhood of Mataderos when trying to help neighbours who were being robbed.
The victim was arriving at his residence located at 5200 Francisco Bilbao street around 8:30pm, when he saw suspicious movements at his neighbour's residence. Knowing that it was a burglery in progress, Gómez decided to intervene.
One of his neighbour explained the sequence of events.
"Three robbers approached me and broke into my house when I was arriving. Once inside, they hit my mother-in-law and started asking for money and looking for anything."
"Then we heard a burst of gunfire," they said.
Police authorities informed that first evidence indicates that the retired officer tried to defend himself with his personal gun who might have got jammed thus giving the robbers time to fire at will.
Robbers escaped in a Volkswagen Bora, while witness indicated that there was a back-up car with two more burglars parked outside.
No arrests were reported to be made so far.
