Lower House clears ART bill reform for debate

Labour Minister Carlos Tomada present at the Lower House committees'' debatee.

The Workers Legislation, Budget and General Legislation committees of the Lower House of Congress cleared the workers risk insurance (ART) law reform for debate and will be at the floor on October 24. The bill has already been preliminary approved by the Senate.

The debate counted with the presence of Labour Minister Carlos Tomada, and the pro-government bloc managed to clear the bill for debate.

The bill sets the "exclusive option" or "option with resignation," by which the injured worker or his family can choose between collecting the ART compensation or claim a higher compensation in a trial.

By this, the workers are excempted from civil responsibility, which bans them from going to court while simultaneously making a claim to the labour risk insurance company.
