Students to consider Bullrich's proposal of holding reforms until 2013

Students were considering lifting the takeovers of over 50 secondary schools as they analyzed City Education Minister's proposal of holding reforms until 2013.

Buenos Aires City Education Minister Esteban Bullrich met with secondary school students earlier today in a hearing hoping to resolve the various conflicts that have caused student sit-ins and takeovers in more than forty city schools.

After the meeting, the official offered to suspend syllabus reforms the students were protesting against until next year.

Nicolás Cernadas, student from the Normal 1 school, explained that Education Ministry’s proposal surpassed expectations and that students have to decide whether they lift the takeovers of more than 50 schools, after three weeks of protest.

The hearing was led today by Judge Elena Liberatori.

Yesterday, students held a rally and marched from Palacio Pizzurno down to the City Education Ministry, located on Paseo Colón Avenue voicing their demands, in the second demonstration since the 'takeovers' began on September 17th.

The standoff between the City Education Ministry and secondary students who are taking over 40 City secondary schools to protest against could come to an end today as both parties meet this morning.
