'The President loves, respects people of La Matanza,' Scioli
Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli assured that President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has strong feelings of respect and affection towards the people of La Matanza, following the controversy stemmed from comments she made at Harvard University on Thursday.
“I know that people from La Matanza are very thankful for all that’s been done for theme during these years, and the La Matanza university has an excellent level,” Scioli said, thus talking light of the President’s comments. La Matanza is a densely populated district in Greater Buenos Aires with a mostly Peronist population
While answering questions at Harvard university’s Kennedy school of Government, Fernández de Kirchner replied to a student:” You are Argentine and you are here. You musn’t have trouble with dollars. Do you know how many Argentines won’t be able to even got to La Matanza University?” Shortly after, whistling from the public caused her to remined them they were in Harvard, “not in La Matanza”.
Following the controversy, the President used her Twitter profile two send two messages. “Yesterday in Harvard I thought a lot about you. When I get to know other places in person I love you a bit more.”
