Mujica calls Uruguayan-Argentine relations 'schizophrenic'

Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica highlighted the “schizophrenic” state of the country and love-hate relationship with Argentina today, quashing the “enormously protectionist measures” applied by the Kirchnerite administration.

In an interview published in Uruguayan newspaper La Diaria today, the official was questioned on his point of view regarding the current relationship between the neighbouring countries, among other political topics.

“Uruguay is a bit of a schizophrenic country. It leaches the life out of Argentina and then spits it out again,” Mujica said.

The interview grilled the Uruguayan president on a number of topics regarding Argentina, including questioning his opinion on the recent pot-banging protests that occurred in Buenos Aires.

“The fact that Argentina has got its problems is a given, but let us not confuse Barrio Norte and one part of Buenos Aires, with Argentina. Argentina is a continent. I have always felt that way about the place.”
