Teen vote: ‘We are betting on the youngsters,’ Sileoni
Education Minister Alberto Sileoni came on stage today to defend a draft bill that would allow minors between the age of 16 and 18, and foreign residents to vote. The debate bagan this morning at the Upper House. The official was the first speaker in a parliamentary session that is expected to last the entire day.
“We are betting on the youngster”, Sileoni told the press, and added: "This bill does not evolve around the assumption all youngsters have a political vocation.”
“On the contrary, it’s a call to get involved in politics, a very positive thing.”
The Minister sees a manner to expand the youngsters right as he explained during his speech before the Senate’s Constitutional Affairs committee.
“The extension of rights is a conquest, never a retreat. It’s a bet on our youth, and a vote of confidence”, he concluded.
