Opposition parties launch plans against re-reelection

Hermes Binner and Margarita Stolbizer sign a petition against the re-reelection reform.

The main opposition blocs had set different actions to reject and try to avoid the government's will to carry out a constitutional reform to allow the re-reelection for President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

The Radical Party leaders; the head of the CGT labour confederation, Hugo Moyano; Hermes Binner's Broad Progressive Front (FAP) and the Political Action for Unity (GAPU) - which gathers the PRO bloc and the Peronist Front - and condemned the reform and called for a joined work.

The FAP National Board headed by Binner announced the beginning of a campaign to collect a million signatures "to defend the independence of powers, federalism and social rights."

"This respect for the constitution leads us to be totally against the presidential re-reelection. Respecting the National Constitution also includes not to set the re-reelection as a way out for the national government," Santa Fe's ex Governor assured.

Meanwhile, the head of GEN, Margarita Stolbizer added that "we're setting a popular participation mechanism, which includes the signatures collection to defend the Constitution."

Córdoba's Senator Luis Juez anticipated that "within the next days we will announce other initiatives to show where this plural space is standing regarding this issue."

The campaign will end in October 30, day in which the first election after the "Dirty War" was held.

The GAPU presented its own campaign by holding a debate with constitutional attorneys, former legislators and NGO's representatives.

Earlier, the head of the Radical Party, Mario Barletta, met with Moyano and agreed to join forces in opposing the current “lack of freedom in the country.”
