Binner confirms Socialists to back suffrage changes
Although yesterday the Socialist Senator Norma Morandini hinted her discrepancies and distrust to the government’s draft bill that seeks to extend suffrage to the 16-17-year age-group and two-year foreign residents, the party’s leader Hermes Binner, confirmed that they will support the project.
“It is necessary to involve the youth”, the former presidential candidate said during a radio interview.
“We will vote positively, since we believe that young people must be given with such an opportunity.”
Asked about the national government’s intention to conduct a constitutional amendment which will allow President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to seek for a third term, Binner said that “There is no need for a constitutional reform. Likewise, a government that has spent 12 years in power is already exhausted in all its forms.”
