CB announces bureau de change banned from airports, ports
The Central Bank announced today that only public financial entities will be able to operate in ports and airports, in a measure aimed to avoid abuse in currency exchange for foreign tourists and that will be implemented on Friday.
Thus, private exchange bureaus and banks will have their permits revoked.
The CB registered several abusive attitudes that affect foreign tourists entering Argentina as foreign currency was sold at much lower prices than average.
The measure was taken following a joint study between the CB, the Financial Information Unit (UIF) and ORSNA national airport authority, which recommended to move forward with measures to prevent money laundering and financing of terrorism in airports and ports.
